After the new year, the LCD panel market (including TV panels, monitor panels, and laptop panels) will have a good start. According to research data disclosed by TrendForce Consulting, in late February 2024, the prices of 65 inch, 55 inch, 43 inch, and 32 inch TV panels all increased, while the prices of monitors and laptop panels remained unchanged.
Zhang Xinyuan, the head of research at Kefangde Think Tank, said in an interview with Securities Daily: "February is the off-season of the market, and the prices of various sizes of TV panels have increased, exceeding market expectations. Looking ahead to the whole year, there is still room for TV panels to rise, but the specific trend is still influenced by factors such as supply chain fluctuations and the global economic environment."
All sizes of TV panels have increased in price simultaneously
According to research data from TrendForce, the average price of a 65 inch TV panel was $166 in late February, an increase of $2 compared to the previous period. The average price of a 55 inch TV panel this period is $124, an increase of $1 compared to the previous period. The average price of a 43 inch TV panel this period is $62, an increase of $1 compared to the previous period. The average price of a 32 inch TV panel this period is $35, an increase of $1 compared to the previous period.
Entering February, the price of TV panels has increased significantly. However, in early February, only large-sized panels of 65 inches and 55 inches increased in price compared to the previous period. In late February, prices of TV panels of various sizes increased, benefiting listed companies related to the industry chain.
Kaiyuan Securities stated that the price of TV panels rose early in February, partly from the supply side. The shortage of COP film materials upstream of polarizing panels, coupled with panel manufacturers adhering to the strategy of controlling production and reducing crop turnover, is a contributing factor to the price increase; On the other hand, from the demand side, various brands are starting to stock up on new models.
LCD panels, including TV panels, display panels, and laptop panels, have rebounded from their overall bottom since late September 2022, with TV panels rising all the way while display and laptop panels have seen relatively small price increases. According to research data from TrendForce Consulting, the prices of monitors and laptop panels of all sizes remained unchanged in late February. Among them, the average price of 11.6-inch laptop panels has remained stable at $24.8 since late November 2022.
Zhu Keli, Executive Director of the China Information Association, said in an interview with Securities Daily, "Compared to the significant increase in TV panel prices, the reason why monitor and laptop panel prices are 'stagnant' is mainly due to differences in market demand and panel factory strategies compared to TV panels."
TrendForce consulting analyst Bo Yu told Securities Daily, "Starting from February this year, some customers of display panels have started to increase their willingness to purchase, and prices are expected to gradually stabilize. However, in terms of laptop panels, they are still in the off-season and there is a high possibility of a decline."
Event activities will drive demand
In 2023, the demand for panel terminals has not yet recovered. When the market will experience a recovery has always been a focus of industry attention. In 2024, events such as the Paris Olympics, European Cup, Copa America, and World Basketball Championship will have a significant impact on market demand
